Iโm sure this will not be the last book about โStraight Edgeโ โ but at least this one is broaden its horizont not only about SxE but also about Hardcore Punk and Radical Politics. Lets see. It is seperated in 5 chapters: Bands, Scenes, Manifestos, Reflections and Perspectives. The โTimelineโ given is helpful to understand when it all started and how it developed. The introduction by the author makes also sense. The first interview is with Ian MacKaye, not sure why other had to follow, but they do some of them are interesting. I kinda like the Refused interview, because he (Dennis) gets away with what he is doing (or not) cuz none of the โwrongโ questions have been asked.
Wow, another great photobook! This time from Germany, but fully in english. It starts off with a strong series of โone-musician-only-live-on-stage-with-no background-but-black-photosโ, great shots even if it is like unreal. In the end there is some more of those. What follows is many great photos of hardcore bands, crowd shots, some of them are spread over 2 pages, some not. Text scribbled with a marker on the pages and sometimes into the photos is a concept, but not my favourite.

Porto. (dolf)

Cool concept: โOne Issue One Topicโ, in this case Death. The publishers (Thiele/Thauer) got contributions from 44 persons (+ their own 2 texts) about the topic. I personally have heard about/know only 6 persons โ but, that should not distract one from reading this book.

This was fun to read, 17 different comic artists from across the globe draw comics on how they imagine (or experienced) police oppression. Police is always brutal and unfair, of course – only one story concludes that sometimes you can not tell the diffrence between the „authoritys“, which was good to see.

Unfortunally I have never seen Morgenmuffel Zine in the last 10 years anyway, here is a collection of the best bits, re-presented and re-organised. All black and white it is basically columns in comic format or should I say illustrated columns.

This is a nice hardcover book about – you guessed it – Street Art in Valencia, the third biggest city in Spain. The author Luz A. Martin took plenty of photos of street art in her hometown. And she did also asks 7 of the more popular artists (End, Escif, Graffilia, Julieta, Nero, On_ly, Sam3) from Valencia the same five questions. Intersting to see the differences in the answers, but also some similarities.
I wish I could have been there back then, at the same time Iโm glad I was not there โ so many of my imaginations would have been destroyed. By the time I saw Black Flag in Germany they โdevelopedโ their music style not in my favour.

This is a nice well crafted book from the german photographer Christoph Lampert and shows a selection of collected photographs from 1989 โ 2008. Most of the text is in english, half of the photos are b/w (โClassic Yearsโ) the rest is 4c (โDigital Yearsโ) and all the photos are accompanied with text from one of the band members (or the author).
