Love the cover, it says so much about california and the „beginning“ of skateboarding… but first there is the format of this photobook – 30 x 40 (!) cm, that is big – Hardcover. Hollands photos where first shown at a gallery in Los Angeles in 2006 and are now available in this 84 page book. If you are a friend of big photos, you will be satisfied here, since alot of the shots are spreads! Almost real! Being no skater himself, Hugh Holland was fascinated by the skating kids in the mid seventies skating the streets, pools and parks of the greater Los Angeles area.

In der Rezension zum Band 1 in Trust # 123 vom April 2007 schrieb ich am Ende: โโฆich kann das empfehlen, 96 Seiten bestes Underground Edutainment โ Und was soll ich sagen der zweite Band ist auch voll gelungen, allein die Tatsache das ich das Ding in einem Rutsch durchgelesen hab spricht für die hohe Qualität der Geschichten und die erneute Kurzweiligkeit. Auch diesmal ein schöner 4 farbiger Hardcover Band im Format 19 x 26,5. Michalke ist seinem Stil treu geblieben โ also nicht perfekt aber gekonnt โ der Zeichenstil.

This is a photobook by Sergej Vutuc, with a text by Jocko Weyland, 104 pages with 70 b/w illustrations, hardcover 24 x 25,5 cm – very nice paper. There is photos of some skateboarding, street scenes of citys and other stuff. The photos have a strange feel to them because of the quality /style they are shown, blurry, rather dark and depressing.
Unfortunally I have to say I’m not very impressed with what I see…. or I simply dont understand the concept of Sergejs book. The motifs are in any order, I did not see too many „outstanding“ pics. Dont like, or simply dont get it.

Here is a book written by a fan for fans. Fortunally Earles did speak to Grant Hart and Greg Norton while – unfortunally – Bob Mould declined. You will not find many „dirty stories“ about their drug use or sexuality, which is good, even thou it is part of their history and therefore kinda missing.

This is the first book about Riot Grrrl and the author did a fantastic job. Well researched and very good written/put together, it is not a sequence of quotes from the various people (otherwise known as „oral history“) but acutally a intersting to read text about the 90s (1989 – 1994) counterculture Riot Grrrl.

Anfangs war da Skepsis, aber die war sofort weggeblasen. Die 320 Seiten, herausgegeben von Ethel Seno/Taschen, kuratiert von Marc und Sara Schiller, sind dem Autor Carlo McCormick mehr als gelungen! Das Buch ist in acht Kapitel unterteilt: Spielregeln, Eroberung des Raumes, öffentliche Erinnerung, private Geheimnisse, Anti-Werbung und Konsumkritik, Grüne Guerilla, Magische Welten, Abstrakte Botschaften und Urbane Volkskunst. Es gibt noch Vorwort, Einleitung, Nachwort und einen Epilog sowie mehr oder weniger schlau Geschriebenes zu den einzelnen Kapiteln.

The first „Textura-Book“ was about Valencia and I was not so impressed… this one is much better, well, at least I like the art displayed much more! This is a nice hardcover book about street art in Buenes Aires and you learn about the city, its different neighbourhoods and the graff there. Alot of great artists produce some amazing pieces, it is remarkable that alot of the street art shown is super huge – and I mean huge, some of them cover full – very high – housewalls.

Im ersten Moment dachte ich mir: „Oh nein, noch ein Buch zum Thema ‚Straight Edge‘ – muss das sein…“ aber, ich kann Euch sagen, das kleine Büchlein hat es in sich. Nämlich alles Wesentliche was man zum Thema wissen muss – wenn man überhaupt keine Ahnung hat. Viel mehr als 70 Seiten braucht man auch nicht wirklich um sich mit Straight Edge zu beschäftigen. Von den Anfängen über die Auswüchse (religiöser SE, rechter/linker SE, vegan SE, usw.) beleuchtet der Autor meist sehr objektiv die oftmals ambivalenten politischen Dimensionen.
Leute, gibt es da – wie überall – Schwachköpfe. Aber das ist ja nichs neues, ebensowenig wie abstinent Leben, nur eben unter neuem/anderem Namen. Ein kleines (11x18cm – broschur) Gesamtwerk für die Hosentasche, mit vielen Erklärungen, erstmal erschienenen übersetzungen/Zitaten, fast wissenschaflich aber niemals trocken – gutes Teil! Für schlappe 7,80 Euro. (dolf)

While I would think ‚everybody‘ knows who Steve Ignorant is, I could be wrong…. he was one of the founders of the band CRAss and their singer (he would later play also in Stratford Mercenaris and Schwartzeneggar). CRAss was a highly political and active punk band from the early 80is (if you prefer, late 70is) and influenced alot of the second wave of Punk Rockers (indluding me) to this day. But, the book is not the story of that band, even thou the band, of course, has a section abut them…

This is a monster: 28 x 22 cm and more than 575 pages, a facsimile of the โmost significant US-Hardcore Punk zineโ (I doubt that!). What you get is all 22 issues of Touch & Go Fanzine (yes, T&G was a fanzine before it was a label), ever published. If I remember correctly I never before saw a copy of T&G, so I was really looking forward to read this piece of history.
