Skater

Here we have a „project book“ (always nice looking hardcover book with plenty of space for the photographs, usually accompanied by a foreword/interview from the author or other – sometimes – academic persons that explain why the project started and what it means, usually it never means alot, but always appears to mean much with a deeper sense. Stripped down: photographer travels, takes pictures in a certain frame or a theme, makes a book and exhibitions, its art). Toole from Australia traveled the world and took portrait photos of skaters with their boards, she trys to catch that „mental zone“ skaters enter when they skate – in this case the challenge is they are not skating. 68 of them you see here, from Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Usa, Australia and the Czech Republic, some of them look pretty stupid when they have that „mental zone“ look in their face.

But all the photos are authentic, Nikki Toole mostly photographs no name skaters at their spots. Black/White is the photo on the right page, the left page tells the reader the name of the skater, city, country. If you look for skate action, this is not the book for you. Hardcover, 144 pages, 20 x 24 cm, 39,90 Euro (dolf)
